IFR to Hawarden in my Beech Bonanza

Tonight I was ready to take another IMC lesson when the opportunity to take a real world lesson came about. Somebody needed a lift to Harwarden. It was suggested that I could combine my lesson with a lift and so the arrangements were quickly made.

We flew at 3000ft cleared through Liverpool zone, albeit with me wearing the foggles because for once in Lnacashire the cloud base was above 2000ft then were positioned towards the Kegun Intersection and then handed over to Harwarden approach who vectored us for an ILS. All went well and we landed soon after and disembarked our passenger.

On the return journey all was going well but a bit fast with 185 knots ground speed at standard cruise for an ILS to Blackpool and in all the excitement I forgot to ident the ILS and so I didnt intercept it properly until I relaised what had gone wrong and that although I had the frequency typed in I had not selected it. I must try harder was the report.

All in all a very enjoyable evening though with some beautiful flying conditions even though because I was practising IMC I didnt look out of the window, honest guv!
