I picked up the plane with its new engine in it today. The guys who fitted the engine showed me some of the parts and despite me thinking it was a waste of time and money replacing the engine they found plenty of faults including

Completely worn out exhaust. There were bits broken off the bafflers in jammed in the tail pipe.

Several holed pipes that fed air into the cockpit and engine.

Several rusted up pipes fittings.

 The new engine flies super smooth and has balanced injectors and an uprated alternator on it. There is a book with it where TCM go to lengths to show you how they balance the injectors to make it run msooth. It certainly seems to. For reference I have to fly it as 2550rpm (Max rpm in this model of A36) and and 25 inches of manifold pressure for the first couple of hours. At that speed at 4000ft with 19 degrees outside air temp I was getting a TAS of 184 knots. Much faster than the book and also faster than the old engine. I wouldnt normally fly at those power settings but you have to during the first couple of hours.

Knackered Exhaust with baffles almost totally destroyed inside. I hope none of the bits dropped on people as they flew out the end of the exhaust!

and look the can almost melted. They said it was because there was nothing much left inside so it got too hot. The engineers said that was simply down to age of the part rather than any particularly bad running.

Hi Stuart

Am admiring the photo of your Garmin 795 on the yoke. Am flying my friends B36 TC and he has got a 795 for it but with a bracket that fits it to the right of the avionics stack. It looked too tight for the yoke? Any chance you could send some more pics and show how the power and aerial wires run down the column?
